The Refugee Problem

Refugees come to the US with very little knowledge of America. They are often deprived of adequate resources, opportunities, and contact with society outside their segregated communities. In a foreign land, they struggle to find the employment necessary for them to support their families. Many cannot afford the counselors or teachers necessary for their children to adjust and succeed in a new country.

San Diego County includes the largest refugee population in California. A large percentage of them are children who have witnessed unfathomable traumas. With limited help and resources, they struggle academically, emotionally, and socially in an unfamiliar environment. The obstacles they face alone affect not only their hopes for their future but also their own self-esteem.

At Nova Spero, we focus on our students individually to ensure that the students understand the concepts they learn. We provide mentorship and encouragement to those who need it and offer unlimited support as teachers and as neighbors. We at Nova Spero work to provide a New Hope for refugee families, and you can too.
